Terms of use
Last updated 1 October 2026
The short version
- Spinely reads spines with AI. It's usually right, sometimes wrong: check before you buy.
- Values are estimates from public listings, not prices you're guaranteed to get, and not financial advice.
- Use it for yourself, fairly: no bots, scraping or reselling access.
- Subscriptions are handled by Apple; you can cancel any time in your Apple ID settings.
About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and SO Digital ("we"), [Business or postal address], KvK 73037842, about using the Spinely app and website. If you got the app from the App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies; where the two differ, these terms add to it for our own service.
By using Spinely you accept these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
What Spinely does
You photograph shelves, boxes or piles of books, films, music and games. Our server and an AI service read the spines and identify the items, and we add details such as covers, ratings, summaries and estimated values from third-party sources.
Reading spines is hard. Titles can be misread or missed, especially in blurry, dark or angled photos, and details from other sources can be incomplete or out of date. Always check an item yourself before you rely on what the app says.
Values are estimates
Values shown in the app are estimates based on public listings and sales data at the time (for example current eBay listings). They don't take into account the condition of your copy, fees, postage or demand, and they change. They are not an offer to buy, a guarantee of what you'll sell for, or financial or investment advice. Decisions to buy or sell are your own.
Fair use
You may use Spinely for your own scanning, as a collector or as a reseller. You may not:
- access the service by automated means (bots, scripts, scrapers) or try to get around scan limits or device checks;
- resell, share or sublicense access to the service, or build a competing database from it;
- upload photos that are unlawful or that you have no right to use, or that are mainly of people;
- interfere with the service, test its security without our permission, or reverse engineer it beyond what the law allows.
Plans, scans and payments
A scan is one photo. The free plan includes a number of scans each month; paid plans include more. Monthly allowances reset at the start of each calendar month and don't carry over. Extra scan packs (top-ups) don't expire while the service is offered.
Subscriptions are bought through Apple and renew automatically each month until you cancel them in your Apple ID settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions) at least 24 hours before the end of the period. Apple charges the price shown in the App Store, including VAT where it applies. Refunds and the EU right of withdrawal are handled by Apple under its terms.
We may change plans or prices. Changes to a running subscription only apply after you've been told in advance through the App Store, as Apple requires.
Your photos and content
Your photos stay yours. You give us permission to process them only to provide the service, as described in our privacy policy. We don't keep them and don't use them to train AI.
Corrections you make to titles stay on your phone, and in your account if you have one.
If you create an account, you're responsible for keeping access to your email or Apple ID safe. You can delete the account at any time in the app (Profile → Delete account).
Other companies' data and links
Spinely shows information from and links to other services, such as eBay, Steam, IGDB, Open Library and Goodreads. Their names and trademarks belong to their owners. We are not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by them, and we aren't responsible for their content, prices or websites.
Availability and changes
We work to keep Spinely available and accurate, but we can't promise it will always be available, error-free or that a particular data source will stay in the app. We may change, add or remove features. We may suspend or end access for anyone who breaks these terms or abuses the service.
Liability
Spinely is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, or decisions you make based on the app's readings or values, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law or your rights as a consumer.
Ending
You can stop using Spinely at any time by deleting the app and cancelling any subscription. Sections about values, liability and the law that applies continue after that.
The law that applies
Dutch law applies to these terms. If you're a consumer living in another country, you keep the protection of the mandatory rules of that country. Disputes go to the competent court in the Netherlands, unless the law gives you the right to go to a court where you live.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms; we'll tell you in the app about important changes. Last updated: 1 October 2026. Questions: privacy@getspinely.com.
